Hello and welcome to Perfecting Asam Pedas!
I’m Alma, and I created this blog in 2012 to share my thoughts, observations, travel diaries, and snippets of my daily life.
I currently live in Basel, Switzerland, and have done so for the past 3 years. Prior to becoming a “trailing spouse” here, I was a fixed income portfolio manager in Malaysia, where my days revolved around yield and interest rate movements, sovereign debt crises, and macroeconomic forecasts.
I still switch on Bloomberg TV first thing in the morning, but my thoughts are no longer preoccupied with Fed rate decisions or how the latest unemployment figures will affect my portfolio. Instead, I spend my time learning German, studying towards a Post-Grad Diploma in Political Science, and attempting MOOCs on Coursera and edX.
I’ve also been learning how to use my camera and take better photographs – in large part assisted by the beautiful scenery and landscape Switzerland has to offer.
I love to read, and I have a bit of a book-purchasing problem; I buy books at much faster rate than I can read them. So sitting on my bookshelf are rows and stacks of books still new and waiting to be read.
I also enjoy writing, and although I haven’t been able to write as much as I would have liked, it is certainly something I would like to work towards.
Why is this blog called “Perfecting Asam Pedas”, you ask? The answer is here.
Oh, I almost forgot to introduce to you a recurring character in my stories: Muci, whom we adopted two years ago. He enjoys staring out the window, sleeping on fresh laundry, and waking us up at the break of dawn.
So that’s pretty much me, and Perfecting Asam Pedas, in a nutshell. Thanks for stopping by!
